Karolina Maciejewska joined Vetipak Personal Care in Oss as a production worker in 2019. Over the years, Karolina has worked her way up to the position of Operator 2 (A1) and has also undertaken a number of courses. She’s not one to rest on her laurels! We asked Karolina to tell us about the average workday for an operator.

5:00 a.m.

“My alarm goes off. Probably much like any other colleague who gets up early, I start the day with a cup of coffee. Then I quickly head off to our plant on Landweerstraat-Zuid. I arrive at work at 5:40 a.m.”

5:47 a.m.

“First I start up the machines and carry out some standard machine checks. Ten minutes later, once all of my colleagues have arrived, I check to see that everyone’s present. After that they can get to work: we make gift boxes for Rituals cosmetics.”

6:03 a.m.

“We’re welcoming several new colleagues today and I take them on a tour of the plant. Naturally, I explain how to work safely in our hall full of conveyor belts and machines.”

08:00 a.m.

“Our first break of the day; time for another cup of coffee and a chat. We take a break every two hours – the first and last are for 15 minutes, and we have a half-hour break at 10:00 a.m.”

9:23 a.m.

“After running some quality checks, I consult with the team leader about the work hours ahead. I help people and make sure everything runs smoothly. I also prepare a product swap together with the warehouse staff, as we’re about to start producing larger packages.”

9:54 a.m.

“One of the machines has broken down. As Operator 2, I can fix a lot of issues myself. Sometimes I have to ask for help from the technical department, but this time it’s something minor. We can keep going!”

10:03 a.m.

“It’s our second break, and time for a sandwich. It’s only ten o’clock, but our working day is already half over and we’re hungry.”

1:17 p.m.

“The day is going well. Since everything’s under control, I can already check tomorrow’s production schedule. I also look ahead to the next few weeks, because we have a machine conversion coming up. That usually takes about four hours. While that’s under way, I can go ahead and prepare and set up the line for this new phase of production.”

3:06 p.m.

“My shift is finished! I like working early because it means I have the rest of the day to myself. I’ll have time to rest, and then I can enjoy cooking something delicious for dinner.

8:19 p.m.

“At night I like to watch a good movie. Or at least, when I’m not working – if I’m doing the afternoon shift, then I start work at 3:00 p.m. and finish at midnight. I also enjoy cycling, visiting friends and… joining in with the Vetipak team-building activities. Those are a great way to get to know your colleagues not only at work, but also personally. I love it!”
